Christmas comes early in Italy, because they don't exactly celebrate Thanksgiving here! So, with stores beginning to display beautifully decorated trees, wreaths, and general Christmas cheer, we couldn't help but get (prematurely) wrapped up in the Christmas spirit!
Therefore, a few of us decided to go to IKEA, a Swedish chain store in Europe full of home furnishings, and picked up some decorations and a full-size tree! We got lights, bulbs, ribbon, even a poinsettia - the whole nine yards. We supplemented this with even MORE decorations at a euro-store (everything's one euro, perfect for poor college students!), and got even more ornaments, garlands, and even some mini Christmas trees to complete the decor in the apartment.
With decorations in tow, we headed home and set to work cleaning, decorating, and carefully rearranging extension cords to plug into already scary Italian sockets for the lights. After much wiping, sweeping, assembling, ribbon-twirling, and bulb-hanging, we celebrated our hard work with a bottle of asti, an italian sparkling white wine. Sitting at the table, sipping from our champagne flutes, we admired our work, and under the soft glow of the Christmas tree, we felt a little bit closer to home.
